Activation of a New Surface Water Gaging Station, Redwood Creek, Humboldt County

A new permanent surface water gaging station is being established on Redwood Creek near Redway, California, to collect and transmit real-time data on stream stage, discharge, and water temperature to the California Data Exchange Center for public use. The installation includes a steel pole driven into the ground outside the active channel, an equipment enclosure housing a data logger, battery, radio, and solar panel, conduit connecting the enclosure to the monitoring devices, a staff gage and radar water level sensor mounted on an existing bridge structure, and a water temperature sensor. All construction activities are designed to minimize environmental impact, with no vegetation removal, in-channel excavation, tree removal, or modifications to the bridge or roadway. Ground disturbance will be limited and restricted to essential installation needs.
