The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development plans to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity to provide access to a state-of-the-art Biological Testing Facility aimed at accelerating the development of contraceptives and other reproductive health products. This initiative seeks to support innovative research that addresses unmet needs in fertility regulation for both women and men across their reproductive lives, with a focus on advancing promising methods toward clinical application. The opportunity utilizes the X01 activity code, designed by the NIH to grant eligible institutions access to specialized research resources, enabling collaborators to leverage the facility’s capabilities for preclinical and translational studies. While applications are not currently being accepted, this forecast serves to alert potential applicants so they may prepare robust, responsive proposals in advance. The funding authority derives from multiple provisions of the Public Health Service Act, including Sections 301, 448, and 487, as well as key legislative amendments and the Small Business Research and Development Enhancement Act of 1992. Potential applicants can direct inquiries to Dr. Leigh Allen at the provided contact information for further details.

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for access to a state-of-the-art Biological Testing Facility (BTF) for advancing both contraceptive and reproductive health-related product development. There is a critical need for fertility regulation methods that fit the needs of women and men throughout their reproductive lives, and it is also essential to support the development of new therapies related to reproductive health. Investigators with innovative and validated methods for future clinical development are encouraged to consider applying for this NOFO. This opportunity will use the X01 activity code, which the National Institutes of Health (NIH) uses to invite eligible institutions to seek access to NIH research resources. Grant authorities that allow the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to forecast this opportunity are as follows: Public Health Service Act, Section 301, 448 and 487, as amended, Public Laws 78-410 and 99-158, as amended, 42 U.S.C. 241; 42 U.S.C. 285g; 42 U.S.C. 288; Small Business Research and Development Enhancement Act of 1992, Public Law 102-564, Public Law 118-47.

Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop responsive projects.

Partnership with Common Fund Data Ecosystem ResourcesThe NIH Office of Strategic Coordination through its Common Fund is seeking partnerships between Common Fund data programs and external biomedical data resources to improve the reusability and integration of Common Fund datasets within broader scientific ecosystems. The initiative aims to advance the FAIR principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—by fostering collaborations that bridge the Common Fund Data Ecosystem with other significant NIH data platforms such as the HEAL Data Ecosystem, BRAIN Initiative, Cancer Research Data Commons, ImmPort, TOPMed, and the Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center. These partnerships are intended to develop shared resources that enhance data connectivity, enable cross-platform analysis, and promote broader scientific utility of Common Fund data without supporting new clinical trials. The funding opportunity is open to non-CF biomedical data resources that can contribute infrastructure, tools, or expertise to amplify the impact of Common Fund datasets. Applicants must propose concrete plans for integration, interoperability, and sustainability of jointly developed resources. While no specific funding amount or deadline is indicated in the provided data, the solicitation was posted on August 6, 2026, and inquiries may be directed to the Common Fund Data Ecosystem Program via cfde@od.nih.gov. This effort reflects a strategic push by the NIH to unify diverse biomedical data ecosystems under common standards, enabling more comprehensive and efficient data-driven research across disciplines and institutions.
