Bouldin Island Multi-Benefit Levee Setback Project

The Bouldin Island Multi-Benefit Levee Setback Project, led by Reclamation District No. 756, involves the setback and rehabilitation of approximately 5,000 linear feet of levee along the Mokelumne River in Stockton, San Joaquin County. The primary objectives are to create a 20-foot-wide waterside planting bench for shaded riverine aquatic habitat, upgrade the levee to meet Bulletin 192-82 standards, and replace the Camp 5 Pump Station and its associated outfall pipes. Technical specifications include the placement of 80,000 cubic yards of fill, 18,000 tons of clean quarry stone for slope protection, and 4,000 tons of aggregate base for the levee crest access roadway. The project is subject to strict environmental compliance under the California Environmental Quality Act, with a Mitigated Negative Declaration indicating no significant impacts provided mitigation measures for biological and cultural resources are implemented. Construction is scheduled to begin on May 31, 2025, and span two years, with work restricted to specific seasonal windows: general construction from May 1 to November 1, waterside work from July 1 to November 1, and in-water work from August 1 to October 31. Additionally, the project must adhere to CalGEM guidelines regarding the re-abandonment of any impacted oil, gas, or geothermal wells and comply with California Department of Fish and Wildlife regulations concerning endangered species and migratory birds.
