CDCR California Correctional Institution (CCI) Main Landfill Stabilization

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is undertaking stabilization work at the Main Landfill of the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, California, to address deficiencies identified in a May 2022 inspection by Kern County. The project involves repairing three disposal areas that lack adequate cover material over landfill waste, bringing them into compliance with state regulatory standards. In addition to adding sufficient cover, the work will correct deficient drainage and erosion controls that pose a risk to groundwater quality. Minor grading activities will be performed to improve surface water management and reduce erosion, ensuring long-term stability of the landfill site. A reconnaissance-level field survey conducted in June 2022 found no sensitive environmental resources present in the work areas, allowing the project to proceed without additional environmental mitigation requirements. The effort is part of ongoing compliance and infrastructure maintenance to protect public health and environmental integrity in the region.
