The City of Beaumont has been contracted by the California Department of Water Resources to install four stream gaging stations as part of the California Stream Gage Improvement Program. The installations will occur at four specific locations: one on Cooper’s Creek at W. 4th Street, one on San Timoteo Creek at Potrero Blvd., and two on San Timoteo Wash at the San Timoteo Canyon Road and Eastside Ranch Road crossings. Each station will be equipped with a staff plate mounted on a T-post in the channel, a 2-inch diameter PVC stilling well extending to the channel invert, a conductivity and water level probe, a data logger with integrated telemetry, and an antenna. The stilling well will be secured to a T-post on the streambank, connected via flexible conduit to a separate PVC pipe housing the instrumentation away from the water flow. All equipment will be installed using only hand tools, with no heavy machinery permitted to minimize environmental impact. The project emphasizes precise instrumentation and durable, low-impact deployment methods to ensure reliable, continuous hydrologic data collection. The data logger will transmit real-time measurements remotely, enabling monitoring of stream levels and water conductivity across the watersheds. Installation will be completed in compliance with site-specific conditions, ensuring the integrity of the stream channels and surrounding environment. The primary point of contact for the State is Brian Humphrey, Senior Environmental Scientist, and for the City of Beaumont, Thaxton Van Belle, Director of Water Reclamation, with the contract publicly listed under the California environmental planning portal as of August 6, 2026.
