Conditional Authorization of use of Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticide for Research

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation has granted conditional authorization to Dr. Niamh Quinn for the limited use of Brigand SB Soft Bait, containing the active ingredient bromadiolone, for research purposes. The project is designed to reevaluate second generation anticoagulant rodenticides by assessing their adverse effects on non target wildlife and mapping trophic pathways to track movement through rodent populations. This authorization is effective from September 3, 2026, through September 2, 2027, and is geographically restricted to Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The research is subject to strict operational requirements, including a maximum usage limit of 9 grams of active ingredient for the entire activity. All use must comply with the pesticide product's registered label directions and applicable use regulations, with bait stations required to be spatially separated. The project is conducted under Food and Agricultural Code section 12978.7(g)(8) and is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under Category 6 for information collection, as the activity is not expected to result in serious environmental disturbance.
