Conditional Authorization of use of Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticide for Research

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation has issued a conditional authorization for the limited use of Bromadialone, specifically Brigand SB Soft Bait, to support research into the reevaluation of second generation anticoagulant rodenticides. This authorization is effective from September 3, 2026, through September 2, 2027, and is focused on assessing the adverse effects of these rodenticides on non-target wildlife. The research is being conducted by Dr. Niamh Quinn of the University of California Cooperative Extension Human-Wildlife Interactions Advisor and will take place within Los Angeles and Orange Counties. This project is classified as a forecast and is granted a Notice of Exemption under Categorical Exemption 15306 for information collection. The Department of Pesticide Regulation asserts that the activity is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act because the data collection process does not result in a serious environmental disturbance. Primary coordination for this initiative is managed by Deputy Director Jennifer Teerlink and Dr. Niamh Quinn.
