J--SOLE SOURCE AWARD TO PUCKETT MACHINERY COMPANY FOR REPAIR OF D7R CATERPILLAR DOZER

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District Contracting Office intends to solicit and award on a sole source basis under the authority of FAR 13.500 to Puckett Machnery Company, of Jackson, MS. The Contracting Officer has determined that only one source is reasonably available. This requirement is to repair a D7R Caterpillar Dozer. A copy of the Sole Source Justification is as follows: SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION FOR REPAIRS TO CATERPILLAR D7R Caterpillar D7R serial number 3DN00247 is in need of repairs in order to maintain the equipment's compliance with the original equipment manufacture's design and operational specifications. This equipment is used in repairs to mainline levees and is critical in maintaining the integrity of the flood protection system. Execution of repairs must be performed using OEM replacement parts and the expertise of an authorized factory technical specialist in order to insure that the original performance characteristics are not adversely affected and to insure the most current manufacturer's replacement parts and technical revisions are incorporated into the repair procedures. Puckett Machinery is the southwest Mississippi regional authorized factory repair center for Caterpillar equipment and they are fully capable of performing the required repair services in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. Puckett Machinery has already evaluated the condition of the machine and recommends the repairs being requested. Caterpillar labor and parts for specific repairs are set by predetermined rates common to all their repair facilities. The price quoted by Puckett is fair and reasonable and award to this service vendor would be in the best interest of the Government. OD-R has successfully employed the services of this company in the past in performance of similar machinery repairs. A RFP/RFQ WILL NOT be issued based on this notice.
