The Joint Medical Information System Office and the Department of Homeland Security are coordinating on the Information Assurance Engineering Support Services procurement, initially announced in September 2004. The project aims to provide engineering support to ensure information assurance for their systems, with the procurement still in the planning phase as of December 2004. The updated plan anticipates issuing two separate solicitations running in parallel: one unrestricted Request for Proposal (RFP) valued at approximately $340 million and a second RFP set aside entirely for small businesses, valued at roughly $100 million. These plans are tentative and subject to final approval, with further details expected to be released around January 2005. The contract is being managed by the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic under the Department of Defense, located in North Charleston, South Carolina. Although specific solicitation and NAICS codes or types of set-asides have not been provided, the procurement effort targets comprehensive information assurance engineering services to support critical defense and homeland security initiatives. The overall scope reflects a significant investment in securing and maintaining the integrity of medical information systems and homeland security operations.
