Johnson Cosumnes Mitigation Bank Floodplain Restoration Project

The Johnson Cosumnes Mitigation Bank Floodplain Restoration Project is a Streambed Alteration Agreement executed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for Westervelt Ecological Services, LLC. Located in Galt, California, the project focuses on the preservation and restoration of approximately 204 acres of wetland, riparian, and riverine environments. Key activities include notching stream banks to restore hydrologic connectivity with the Cosumnes River and Laguna Creek, as well as grading and contouring agricultural fields to create 4,400 linear feet of pilot channels and swales. The initiative aims to enhance topographic complexity and promote the recruitment of native plant species through strategic planting of wetland and riparian vegetation. Managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Region 2, the project is governed under Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to ensure the restoration of critical floodplain habitats.
