The purpose of the Lift Station 55-12 and Lift Station 81-07 Upgrade Project (Project) is to replace the chemical odor scrubbers (beds) at both lift stations. Lift Station 55-12 is located at 78755 Jefferson Street in the City of La Quinta, LS 81-07 is located at 80860 Avenue 42, in the City of Indio. The lift stations are more than sixteen years old and currently have deteriorated chemical odor scrubbers and delaminated wet well liners. The proposed improvements include replacing (2) odor beds with the same flow capacity and dimensions at 14' (Length) x 8' (Width) x 9' (Depth). The odor beds will have biological treatment with engineering inorganic material media and a spray-on liner, followed by activated carbon polishing. Foul odors will be drawn from the wet well using a duct fan and forced through a biological treatment with wood chips. The benefit of the biological treatment is the elimination of the chemical use at both sites. In addition, biological treatment is more efficient at eliminating odors.
The upgrades to the existing Lift Station 55-12 and 81-07 facilities are anticipated to begin in or around February of 2026 and will take place over 365 calendar days. The surrounding land uses consist of residential, farmland, open space and roadways. The existing lift stations will continue to convey wastewater while the upgrades are under construction causing no disruptions in services. The Project is not located within or adjacent to a conservation area associated with the Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (CVMSHCP). The sites are not subject to the CVMSHCP development mitigation fee because the sites are previously developed.
