AI Contract Overview

The Department of Defense, through the W6QM Micc-Ft Riley, has issued a sole-source award for the lease of a mobile dishwasher under solicitation W911RX-17-P-1089. This emergency procurement was determined necessary due to life, safety, and health urgencies after the hospital's permanent dishwasher became non-operational. With repairs expected to take between 30 and 60 days due to part lead times, the rental serves as a critical interim solution to ensure sanitized dishes are available for patients and customers three times daily. The decision to rent rather than purchase a new unit was based on economic feasibility and the need to maintain food service missions. While paper products were used as a temporary measure, the cost was deemed unsustainable for the full 60-day repair window. This action ensures the facility remains compliant with health standards while permanent repairs are completed to bring the installation back to standard.

In accordance with FAR 13.106(b), the contracting officer herby determines that the order must be issued on a sole-source basis in the interest of economy and the government to rent a mobile dishwahser due to Life, Safety, and Health Urgency). This determination based on the need to have santitized dish for patients and customers in order to prepare food and drink at least 3 times daily. The current installed dishwash stopped working and cannot be operational for at least 30 to 60 days due to part lead time and other findings due to the malufactuion. The hospital is using their resources to fix the dishwasher and room back to standard, meanwhile it is not feasible for the government to buy a new dishwasher and have it installed versus renting a mobile dishwahser for 60 days. Without the lease of the mobile dishwasher, the food mission on the hospital would be critically damaged. The use of paper items will maintain the mission until the dishwasher is operational but is too costly to continue for a period of 60 days.
