The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) plans to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity for a Clinical Trial Cooperative Agreement Program focused on investigator-initiated interventional clinical trials in alignment with the institute's mission. Eligible applicants must have completed essential preparatory work such as trial design, protocol synopsis, and data analysis plans before applying. The program is structured in two phases: the first phase supports final trial preparations including establishing a single Institutional Review Board, securing contracts, and staffing, while the second phase involves the actual trial implementation contingent on successful completion and approval of phase one milestones by NIAMS. Priority is given to hypothesis-driven trials with potential high clinical impact in areas relevant to NIAMS. This funding opportunity targets single- or multi-site clinical trials across all phases and involves cooperative agreements that facilitate collaboration between investigators and NIAMS. Projects passing the phase one criteria will be considered for administrative prioritization to proceed to phase two, emphasizing effective trial startup and readiness. The program underscores the institute’s commitment to advancing clinical research with significant implications for arthritis, musculoskeletal, and skin diseases. Interested investigators can contact NIAMS via the provided email for further information regarding the application process and requirements.

The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the Clinical Trial Cooperative Agreement Program within the mission areas of the institute.  This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) solicits cooperative agreement applications for implementation of investigator-initiated, single or multi-site, interventional clinical trials (all trial phases). Investigators who have completed all necessary preparation (e.g., the trial design, protocol synopsis, data analysis plan, etc.) through other means may apply for a NIAMS Cooperative Agreement Clinical Trial. The first phase is designed to allow the investigators to prepare the final aspects needed to start the trial, (e.g., establishing the single IRB (sIRB), contracts and reliance agreements with sites, hiring of staff, etc.). Transition to the second phase to begin the trial is dependent upon completion of the phase 1 milestones proposed by the investigator and approved by NIAMS. Phase 1 projects that meet their milestones will be administratively considered by NIAMS and prioritized for transition to the second phase. NIAMS expects trials to be hypothesis-driven and have the potential for high clinical impact within the research mission of NIAMS.
