Full Description

The existing ATC Transmitter (Tx) (Building 148) and Receiver (Rx) (Building 172) sites are not suitable for the integration of the NVS CM-300 (V2) VHF/UHF Radio Group. The NVS radios are procured via an FAA contract and must meet FAA and NEC standards for proper operation, maintenance, and lifecycle support. Therefore, this project is necessary to upgrade the facilities to enable the decommissioning of legacy radio equipment and the implementation of the new radio system. This project will also include the installation of a Transportable Transmitter/Receiver Site (TTRS) shelter which is a 40’ Connex container and has pre-integrated equipment cabinets installed, surge boxes, air conditioners, etc. The TTRS will be installed at the Tx site only, and the existing radio equipment will be temporarily relocated into the TTRS while facility upgrades are being completed. The TTRS requires a separate Earth Electrode System (EES) and a 100A power drop. Use “NAS Pax River Tx and Rx ARE for Statement of Work_Final.pdf” as a guide to accomplish the Tx and Rx site renovations. For additional and more specific information, see the Site Preparation Site Survey Report sent via email from Kyle Thomas 7 October 2024. This project's scope includes HAZMAT remediation, upgrades to the electrical power and grounding systems to ensure operational reliability, enhancements to facility lighting, and the implementation of lightning and RF cabling surge protection, cable trays, and wireway ducts. NAS Patuxent River GEMD may also request and fund additional facility improvements, which will be considered for inclusion. While these efforts are being completed, ATC operations will be sustained via the TTRS.
