The government plans to award a sole source purchase order to UNICOR Federal Prison Industries for office furniture under FAR Part 12 regulations, which govern the acquisition of commercial items. This procurement is considered sole source because the furniture must match existing items already in use within the facilities, ensuring uniformity across office furnishings. The acquisition will be conducted under Subpart 6.302-1(a)(2), which allows for awarding contracts to only one responsible source when no other supplies or services can satisfy the agency’s requirements. The contract pertains to NAICS code 337211 and is managed by the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office for Maine, part of the Department of Defense. The office is located in Augusta, Maine, and the intention to award was posted on July 17, 2008. Interested parties with questions are directed to contact Mrs. Darlene Howes, the Contract Specialist, via email or phone. This sole source procurement method bypasses full and open competition due to the unique need for matching furniture components, highlighting the specific operational requirement driving this procurement decision.
