Award to Sole Source

The Federal Bureau of Prisons plans to award a sole source purchase order to Smiths Detection for an equipment maintenance agreement covering Ionscan 400B and Ionscan 500DT devices used at various prison facilities. This contract will provide factory-authorized maintenance technicians and repair parts to ensure proper upkeep of the equipment. The award will be made under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) and will last for a period of twelve months from the date of award. Due to the sole source nature of the procurement and in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(2), no formal solicitation or quotations will be requested. The announcement serves as the only public notice of this requirement, and any interested parties must submit compelling evidence within three days demonstrating how competition would advantage the government. Such responses will be reviewed solely to decide if a competitive procurement should be initiated, at the government’s discretion.
