AI Contract Overview
The National Institutes of Health, through its Center for Cellular Engineering at the Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, intends to sole source a three-year service contract to Becton, Dickinson and Company for the preventive maintenance and emergency support of two sets of BD Lyse/Wash Assistants and one BD FACSMelody cell sorter. The contract, identified by product service code 6515 and NAICS code 339112, will be awarded as a firm fixed price purchase order under FAR Part 13 Simplified Acquisition Procedures due to the unique and critical nature of the equipment, which requires specialized technical expertise only BD can provide to ensure compliance with FDA standards, maintain ongoing research protocols, and meet urgent operational needs. Competition is excluded because no other vendor can offer equivalent service levels or support for these proprietary systems. The acquisition does not involve a formal solicitation or request for quotations, and the government has determined that BD is the only viable source for this service. Interested parties may submit comments or express interest prior to the deadline of June 4, 2026, at 12 p.m. EST, to Kristin Nagashima, Contract Specialist at the NIH Clinical Center, but the government retains full discretion to proceed without competition based on the responses received. The place of performance is designated as Bethesda, MD 20892, and the notice is formally posted under solicitation number 26-005428 with no set-aside provisions applied.
