The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-HUM-69624-R1C with Jojoe Lemke of North Sky Communications for the Redwood Creek Tributary Stream Remediation Project. Located in the Redwood watershed in Humboldt County, California, the project is a response to regulatory enforcement actions, including Notices of Violation and a Cleanup and Abatement Order, regarding the unlawful discharge of bentonite. The scope of work is limited to a single encroachment involving the removal of bentonite and associated slurry from approximately 200 linear feet of an unnamed tributary to Redwood Creek. Remediation will be conducted using a barrel vacuum truck, portable shop vacuums, and hand tools, with all waste transported to a licensed receiving site. To ensure environmental protection and compliance with section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code, biological monitors will be onsite to perform daily preclearance surveys and manage the capture and relocation of fish and wildlife species. The project has been granted a Notice of Exemption under California Code of Regulations title 14, as it is determined that the work will not significantly impact endangered, rare, or threatened species or their habitats.
