Requirement for CSA Z251 Design for Modular Construction

Under the Construction Sector Digitalization and Productivity Program, the National Research Council has a mandate to enable the accelerated adoption of off-site construction practices, such as volumetric modular construction technologies. The CSA Z251 Design for Modular Construction will be a standalone standard published and owned by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA); a Canadian not for profit standard development organization. Development of a new CSA Z251 would aim to advance the principles of off-site volumetric modular construction to bring benefits to the construction sector by facilitating wider adoption of design standards and practices. This contract seeks to enter into an agreement with the CSA to contribute (50%) to the development of the new standard CSA Z251 Design for modular construction to address emissions and productivity challenges through a consensus based process established by the Standards Council of Canada. The update to the CSA Z251 Design for modular construction will occur concurrently with the work underway at the NRC related to Construction Sector Digitalization and Productivity (CSDP).
