Full Description

Pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1652, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved the Rough Creek Fish Passage Barrier Project submitted by Marrina Nation, a representative of California Trout. The primary purpose of the Project is to control invasive aquatic species and promote Lahontan cutthroat trout (LCT) (Oncorhynchus clarkii henshawi) recovery efforts in the Bodie Hills watershed by constructing a fish passage barrier to exclude invasive fish species from LCT habitat in the upper reaches of Rough Creek. The Project will mediate the limiting factors of riparian dysfunction, salmonid rearing requirements, and competition and predation by non-native aquatic species in historic LCT habitat by improving suitable complex fish habitat and preventing upstream migration of non-native fish species. The species likely to benefit from this Project include but is not limited to Lahontan cutthroat trout which is designated as a Threatened species pursuant to the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) (16 U.S.C. § 1531 et seq.). Total project disturbance area is expected to be less than 0.9 acres.
