SB901 25/26 Western Star #2 Mule Town Road Cemetery Fuels Reduction Project

The SB901 25/26 Western Star #2 Mule Town Road Cemetery Fuels Reduction Project is an initiative led by the Western Shasta Resource Conservation District to reduce wildfire risk on 3.5 acres at the Mule Town Road Cemetery in Shasta, California. The project will be implemented by the California Conservation Corps Redding Center, utilizing a combination of hand tools and mechanical equipment such as chainsaws, loppers, and chippers. Key activities include the removal of dead and dying vegetation, thinning of shrubs, brush, and trees with a diameter at breast height of less than 18 inches, and the removal of ladder fuels by limbing trees 8 to 10 feet from the ground to prevent fire from reaching tree canopies. To ensure community safety and environmental compliance, the project includes the careful thinning of dense vegetation to create horizontal separation between residual plants. All generated woody debris will be managed through chipping and pile burning. These burns must be coordinated with CAL FIRE and the City of Shasta, occurring only during approved burn windows and adhering to all applicable air quality and fire safety requirements. The project is categorized as exempt under CEQA Section 15304(i) for minor land alterations, with Andrea Claassen serving as the primary Project Specialist and point of contact.
