Stewart Canyon Debris Basin Cleanout

The Ventura County Watershed Protection District is initiating the Stewart Canyon Debris Basin Cleanout project in Ojai, California, under project number P6041902. The primary scope of work involves the removal of accumulated sediment and debris from the 10-acre basin, with estimates ranging from 18,000 to 45,000 cubic yards. Additional requirements include the clearing and grubbing of interfering vegetation, the resurfacing of approximately 14,400 square feet of Crushed Miscellaneous Base access road, and the management of surface water via bleeder pipes. All excavated materials must be disposed of at a site approved by the County of Ventura Integrated Waste Management Division. Performance is scheduled to take place between September 29, 2025, and December 5, 2025, specifically timed to follow the bird nesting season. The project is categorized as exempt under Class 1 Existing Facilities as it involves maintenance without expansion. Compliance measures include adhering to the May 2008 Final Program Environmental Impact Report and implementing specific Best Management Practices. To protect sensitive biological resources, biological surveys will be conducted prior to and during the work, and no mature trees will be removed. Access to the site will be provided via North Signal Street and County-owned Right-of-Way.
