Sycamore Landfill Master Plan Expansion

The City of San Diego proposes to expand the operations of the Sycamore Landfill under the Sycamore Landfill Master Plan Expansion, authorizing extended hours and increased capacity across multiple operational areas. The permitted hours of operation will be significantly expanded, with tipping now allowed Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while the scale house will operate Monday through Friday from 4:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on weekends from 4:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Ancillary operations, including waste reception and processing, will be extended to run from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily, with green materials processing occurring Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and all ancillary operations permitted to function 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The maximum daily tonnage allowed will rise from 5,000 tons to 7,500 tons, and the daily volume of municipal solid waste tickets will increase from 869 to 1,100, reflecting a substantial scaling of waste intake and handling capabilities. These changes aim to accommodate growing waste management demands while maintaining regulatory compliance and operational efficiency within the landfill’s permitted boundaries.
