The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is inviting sealed bids for a timber sale within the Richloam Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest, covering approximately 98 acres. The project involves forest-wide thinning of overstocked stands through selective harvesting techniques, including removal of every third row in planted areas and operator-selected thinning in natural areas to achieve a residual pine basal area of 50-60 square feet per acre. The goal is to promote the health and growth of the remaining pine trees, with particular attention to preserving longleaf pines and avoiding wetland and oak areas. The estimated timber volume includes around 2,677 tons of chip-n-saw and better, along with 2,368 tons of pulpwood or mulchwood. Harvest boundaries are marked by roads, stand type changes, or orange paint, with marked orange trees excluded from cutting. Strict adherence to best management practices is required due to wetland proximity. The contract duration is set for twelve months, and interested bidders can obtain detailed information from Daniel Taylor. The agency retains the right to reject any bids and waive irregularities, ensuring a fair and environmentally responsible timber harvesting process.
