The United States Coast Guard is planning an acquisition for dockside repairs on the USCGC KODIAK ISLAND, a 110-foot, C Class Patrol Boat homeported in Key West, Florida. The contract includes critical maintenance tasks such as renewing the main diesel engines and ship service generator, realigning the main diesel engine and reduction gear assembly, and preserving bilge surfaces at various locations. All welding and brazing work must be performed by certified welders following applicable regulations. The work will take place at the vessel’s home pier in Key West with a performance period of approximately 20 calendar days starting around June 1, 2009. This acquisition will be set aside for small businesses, with a size standard of fewer than 1,000 employees, under NAICS Code 336611. The Coast Guard is considering whether to reserve the contract specifically for HUBZone or Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) concerns and requests interested firms to respond by January 9, 2009, providing evidence of their experience and past performance in similar work. Interested firms, particularly those certified as HUBZone or SDVOSB, are required to submit a statement of intent to bid, along with contract experience and references, to enable a decision on the set-aside status. If designated as a HUBZone or SDVOSB set-aside, at least 50 percent of personnel costs must be for employees of the concern or other eligible small business concerns per the applicable FAR clauses. Official contact points include Stephen A. Clark for technical or submission inquiries and Mildred A. Anderson as the contracting officer. The final determination regarding the set-aside will be posted on the FedBizOps website.
