USN Acquisition of Diesel Submarines For Taiwan

The U.S. Navy is organizing a confidential, invitation-only Industry Briefing on December 17 and 18, 2002, aimed at informing selected qualified companies about the upcoming acquisition of diesel submarines for Taiwan. The acquisition process will be a limited competition under the "Public Interest" exception to the Competition in Contracting Act, meaning only a select group of prime contractors, including General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon Company, and Lockheed Martin, will be eligible to compete. Additionally, contractors with expertise in modern diesel-electric submarine designs currently deployed or in development for naval use are also invited to participate in the briefing. Subcontracting opportunities may be available, and interested parties are encouraged to reach out directly to the invited prime contractors for such prospects. At this stage, no further details about the acquisition or contract terms have been disclosed. The solicitation reference number is DON-SNOTE-021209-001, but specific information about the location, agency, or set-aside status has not been provided.
