The W072 Endist Chicago, operating under the Department of the Army, is primarily focused on the maintenance, repair, and structural integrity of critical water-management and maritime infrastructure. Its core mission involves the upkeep of embankments, breakwaters, and canal systems, with a specific emphasis on the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal and related water-control structures. Strategic priorities include the rehabilitation of dams, the maintenance of electric dispersal barriers, and the management of groundwater data and harbor operations to ensure the operational stability of regional waterway systems.
Procurement patterns are heavily weighted toward heavy civil engineering and specialized construction. The agency frequently solicits services for water and sewer line construction, embankment repair, and the maintenance of industrial machinery. Contract vehicles include Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) structures for recurring maintenance, as well as specific solicitations for technical consulting, engineering services, and equipment leasing, such as specialized bridge inspection vehicles.
The agency targets a wide range of NAICS categories, primarily within the construction and technical services sectors, including heavy civil engineering, specialty trade contracting, and professional engineering. There is a strong preference for small business set-asides, with significant utilization of SBA, HUBZone, and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) designations to meet diversity and inclusion goals.
As a component of the Department of Defense and the Department of the Army, this organization manages a specialized geographic portfolio centered on the Great Lakes and Midwest waterway corridors. Its operational scope encompasses everything from large-scale infrastructure projects to facility support services and professional surveying and mapping.
