The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) plans to award an additional sole-source contract to British Aerospace for work on the MK-7 Surface Ship Command System (SSCS) to ensure compatibility with the STANDARD Missile-2 for the Republic of Korea’s KDX-II Class ships. The scope includes providing Design Agent Engineering Services, supplying Weapons Direction Node cards for KDX-II Ships 4 through 6, delivering Command and Control software fixes, revalidating Ship 1 trials, and supporting trials for Ships 2 through 6. This work aligns with existing Letters of Offer and Acceptance between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea and is essential for maintaining the effectiveness of the Korean Navy’s shipbuilding program. British Aerospace, as the original designer and sole producer of the MK-7 SSCS, holds unique technical expertise and capabilities required for the design modifications and engineering support, making it the only viable source to perform this work cost-effectively without impacting ongoing shipbuilding efforts. The contract will be awarded under a statutory exception permitting sole-source acquisition, underscoring the specialized nature of the services and parts involved. This procurement reflects the strategic collaboration between the U.S. and South Korea to advance naval defense systems.
