The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is soliciting sealed bids for the Cow Creek Road Salvage Timber Sale C, covering roughly 303 acres impacted by the Cow Creek Wildfire in Levy County, Florida. The timber sale area includes dead, dying, and green pine timber within the Black Prong and Cow Creek Tracts of Goethe State Forest. The harvest is divided into two zones: a Primary area of approximately 138 acres designated for immediate salvage, and a Contingency area of about 165 acres that will be monitored for potential future harvest needs. All operations must begin within ten days following contract execution, with a contract term of twelve months. Specific restrictions apply to protect environmental sensitive areas such as waterbodies and red-cockaded woodpecker habitats, which will be clearly marked by the Forester-in-Charge prior to harvesting. Bidders should note that if the same party wins multiple Cow Creek Road Salvage Timber Sales (A, B, or C), they must forfeit all but one to the next highest bidder to ensure timely and logistical feasibility. The timber sale includes a mix of salvage pine pulpwood, chip-n-saw, sawtimber, and fuelwood, with no guaranteed volume estimate. The Forester-in-Charge will designate timber for removal, focusing primarily on merchantable material, while excluding non-merchantable or economically unviable trees. Interested bidders can obtain full details from the designated contact, Kari Hurst, and bids must be submitted by May 14, 2026, with an opening scheduled shortly thereafter in Gainesville, Florida. The Florida Forest Service reserves the right to reject any or all bids and waive irregularities as deemed appropriate.
