Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) proposes various improvements within the California Department of Transportations (Caltrans) right of way along State Route 299 in Shasta County at post mile (PM) 20.326 near Shasta and Redding as part of their Undergrounding and Wildfire System Hardening Program. PG&Es 10K mile wildfire system hardening and undergrounding proposes to enter state highway right of way to remove pole(s), remove overhead conductor, bore in the pavement, bore outside the pavement, install new conductor, trench outside the pavement, and conduct vegetation management work. Vegetation work will include: There are 2 tree points (2 total units) proposed for vegetation work. There are 2 brush removal points (2 units) located inside Caltrans right of way. In support of the construction work on this undergrounding project, soil sampling at multiple locations may occur within the State Right of way. The method for sampling will be a truck-mounted auger with a width of 2-4 and a maximum depth of 4. All work will be conducted Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Work requiring traffic control will be performed using the Caltrans pre-approved T-Sheets for example T13 when applicable. For overhead conductor removal and installation over the state route, rolling traffic breaks will be utilized with CHP assistance, as approved by the permit inspector and in compliance with the Lane Closure Chart.
