AI Contract Overview
The Department of Veterans Affairs through the 248-NETWORK Contract Office 8 in Tampa, Florida, is conducting market research under a sources sought notice for the Raizer II Battery Mobile Lifting Chair, name brand or equal, along with associated slings for patient lifts. This effort is aimed at gathering information from small businesses, including service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses and veteran-owned small businesses, to determine if the requirement can be set aside under a total small business set-aside. The equipment is needed for use at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida, and other Community Based Outpatient Clinics where space is limited and manual patient lifting poses significant risks to both staff and veterans. The requirement stems from a mandate under Directive 1611 to equip facilities with fall recovery devices that reduce injury risk and improve compliance with Safe Patient Handling and Mobility principles. The chair must be a low-profile, battery-powered device capable of lifting a patient weighing up to 300 pounds in 20 to 30 seconds using only one caregiver, constructed with an aluminum frame, non-foam seating, and equipped with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery offering a minimum of 75 lifts per charge. It must include a transport bag, a 12V charger, visual and auditory assembly indicators, and a sound working load capacity of 150 kg with a seat width between 25.7 cm and 27 inches. Responses are due by August 16, 2026, and interested parties must submit capability statements, authorization to supply documentation, and confirm their ability to meet all technical specifications. The government anticipates awarding a contract based on the findings from this market research; if insufficient small business responses are received, the solicitation may proceed as unrestricted. While training will be provided by the contractor at installation, ongoing staff training will be conducted by the VA’s Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Program Manager. A warranty of one to five years is required for maintenance coverage. No pricing, delivery schedules, evaluation criteria, or specific contract clauses are outlined in this pre-solicitation, and this notice is strictly for informational and planning purposes without any obligation to award a contract.
