Automated Ultrasound-Based, Super Intelligence (SI)-Enabled Fracture Detection
Solicitation # BARDA-FY27-10192026
The Center for Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) has issued Sources Sought Notice BARDA-FY27-10192026 to identify innovative medical countermeasure technologies for the rapid triage of musculoskeletal injuries, such as fractures and soft tissue injuries of extremities. This request for information is intended for planning and market research purposes to assess commercially available or nearing-commercial technologies that utilize Super Intelligence (SI) and machine learning for automated ultrasound-based fracture detection. The goal is to find standalone, point-of-care devices that can operate in emergency departments, urgent care centers, and austere field settings without relying on traditional imaging infrastructure like X-ray or CT scans. The desired technology must feature automated volumetric capture, 3D-rotatable modeling, and SI-enabled image processing that outperforms human imaging experts and has undergone FDA 510k clearance processes. BARDA is interested in ruggedized, portable units with sufficient battery life for disaster response, interoperability with electronic health record systems, and minimal training requirements for non-specialist operators. Potential acquisition strategies being explored include direct purchases, leases, or vendor-managed inventory arrangements. Interested small businesses and other than small business concerns under NAICS code 334510 must submit their capabilities statements by 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time on November 18, 2026. Submissions must include separate Technical and Business Representation sections, each limited to 10 pages in 12-point Times New Roman font, and be emailed to Justin Moore and Richard Hall. Responses should detail the company's manufacturing capabilities within the United States, regulatory maturity, supply chain resilience, and cybersecurity standards for handling sensitive patient health information.

The Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically the Milo C. Huempfner Outpatient Clinic in Green Bay, Wisconsin, awarded a firm fixed price contract to Trillamed LLC on September 21, 2024, for the procurement of replacement endoscopy cameras and light sources. The total award value was 321,189.24 dollars. This acquisition was conducted under FAR 13.5 Simplified Procedures for Certain Commercial Items and was set aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses. The procurement specifically required Stryker 1688 AIM equipment, including camera control units, LED light sources, camera head and coupler kits, fiber optic cables, and scope adapters. This sole source justification was based on the unique technical capabilities of the Stryker 1688 system, which utilizes Near Infrared imaging and Indocyanine green dye to provide four distinct imaging modalities. Furthermore, this system is the only brand compatible with the clinic's existing rigid endoscopes, arthroscopes, and laparoscopes, ensuring that the facility would not need to replace all current handpieces and related parts.
