The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to award a sole source contract modification to Applied Research Associates (ARA), based in Champaign, Illinois, under contract number DTFH61-05-C-00033. This modification will expand the current scope of work related to the Highway Testing with the Rolling Wheel Deflectometer (RWD) Program, which involves using a specially designed device for measuring pavement deflections at highway speeds caused by traffic loading. ARA is responsible for all aspects of the RWD program, including testing, data analysis, and report preparation. The company originally designed, developed, and tested the RWD system, ensuring their unique expertise and capability to continue this work. The contract's original completion date remains unchanged, set for September 2008, with the modification solely increasing the program's scope without extending the timeline. For further information or inquiries, the primary point of contact is Kyle Roberts, reachable via email or telephone at the FHWA. The procurement details indicate the contracting office is part of the Department of Transportation, specifically the Acquisition and Grants Management office in Washington, D.C. This sole source award underscores the specialized nature of ARA’s involvement due to their prior development and ongoing management of the RWD program.
