AI Contract Overview
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) has issued solicitation ARPA-H-SOL-26-165 for the Comprehensive Organ System Modeling in Outer Space (COSMOS) Initiative. This project seeks to determine if microgravity exposure in Low Earth Orbit accelerates tissue aging in the brain, heart, uterus, and kidneys across various adult age groups. If the aging rate in space significantly exceeds that on Earth, the initiative intends to develop a first-in-class, autonomous, high-throughput drug screening platform in orbit to make pharmaceutical research more cost-effective and efficient than terrestrial methods. Managed by the Department of Health and Human Services, this solicitation is open for responses until October 7, 2026. ARPA-H anticipates granting multiple Other Transaction awards to successful applicants. Interested parties should contact the COSMOS Team for further details regarding this innovative health research effort.

Full Description
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) Comprehensive Organ System Modeling in Outer Space (COSMOS) Initiative aims to definitively prove or disprove if exposure to microgravity in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) truly accelerates tissue aging across brain, cardiac, uterine, and kidney tissue types and across several adult age brackets. Provided Tissue Aging Rate in Space (TARIS) exceeds Tissue Aging Rate on Earth (TAROE) at a rate that exceeds the on Earth breakeven cost for new drug R&D, COSMOS will create a first-in-class platform for fully autonomous, high-throughput drug screening in LEO that would be more cost effective and faster than new drug R&D on Earth.
ARPA-H anticipates multiple Other Transaction awards resulting from this announcement.
