Bedford Canyon Channel Stage 1

The Bedford Canyon Channel Stage 1 project, solicitation number E-202501071, is managed by the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District. Located on approximately 16.78 acres in Corona, California, the project focuses on the construction, operation, and maintenance of channel improvements across 2,200 linear feet of the Bedford Canyon Channel. The primary objective is to resolve drainage deficiencies and significant sedimentation issues located upstream of and beneath the Temescal Canyon Road bridge. The scope of work includes the demolition of existing concrete lining, earth excavation to establish engineered grades, and the installation of approximately 850 linear feet of new concrete-lined trapezoidal channel to replace 500 feet of existing lining, along with additional lining extending 350 feet upstream and the use of riprap and natural earthen-bottom stabilization. The project is subject to strict environmental and regulatory compliance, having adopted a Mitigated Negative Declaration under the California Environmental Quality Act. Key requirements include the implementation of water quality Best Management Practices, the use of approved landfills for construction waste, and the establishment of a traffic control plan to ensure emergency vehicle access. Special protocols are in place for the discovery of human remains or tribal cultural resources, requiring immediate cessation of work and notification of the Riverside County Coroner or relevant tribal representatives. Additionally, the District is required to provide the Pechanga and Soboba Bands with 30 days advance notice for tribal monitoring of ground-disturbing activities.
