San Jose Family Camp Storm Damage and Repair Project (Request No. 1652-2025-084-001-R4)

Pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1652, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved the San Jose Family Camp Storm Damage and Repair Project submitted by Katherine Brown, City of San Jose, Department of Public Works. The Project includes the repair and replacement of San Jose Family Camp facilities that were damaged during storm events. Facilities consist of retaining walls and shallow steps around the north and south sides of a pooled area, as well as southwest of the pooled area, within the Middle Fork of the Tuolumne River. To isolate the Project site from streamflow, the site will be dewatered with a sandbag or waterbag cofferdam and a 200-foot long, 24- to 36-inch diameter corrugated plastic pipe. Approximately three white alder trees (Alnus rhombifolia) measuring between four and 12 inches in diameter at breast height and one additional stump will be removed from the streambank. All mature trees will be replaced by planting appropriate native species at a 3:1 ratio (replace to lost). Replacement plantings will be subject to up to five years of monitoring until established. All disturbed streambanks will be graded to a smooth slope matching adjacent undisturbed streambanks, and hydroseeded with a mix of native forbs and grasses. The primary purposes of the Project are habitat improvement, streambank stabilization, and sediment control. The Project will stabilize streambanks, thereby reducing sedimentation into the receiving watershed and improving water quality to the benefit of fish and wildlife species.
