Chagoopa Plateau Meteorological Station

The California Department of Water Resources is initiating the Chagoopa Plateau Meteorological Station project as part of the Statewide Monitoring Network Modernization Project. Located in Sequoia National Park within Tulare County, the project focuses on upgrading outdated data collection equipment and improving safety for maintenance activities. The primary scope of work includes replacing a 17-foot wilderness pole with a galvanized hinged fold tilt pole anchored to a buried ballast tray base measuring 8.5 by 8.5 by 16 inches. Due to the location, the tilt pole and ballast tray base will be transported to the site via helicopter. Additionally, the project involves the installation of soil probes within 30 feet of the station, which requires the excavation of a 3 by 3 by 3 foot temporary soil pit and the creation of a shallow conduit trench connecting the station to the probes. This project is classified under NAICS code 237990 and has been granted categorical exemptions under CEQA Sections 15302, 15304, and 15306, indicating that the work is expected to have no significant environmental impact.
