Chagoopa Plateau Meteorological Station

The California Department of Water Resources plans to upgrade the Chagoopa Plateau hydrometeorological station by replacing an aging 17-foot wilderness pole with a new galvanized hinged fold tilt pole anchored to a buried ballast tray base measuring 8.5 feet by 8.5 feet by 16 inches. This new pole design improves safety during maintenance operations and will be transported to the remote site via helicopter. In addition to the pole replacement, soil probes will be installed within 30 feet of the station, requiring the excavation of a temporary 3-foot by 3-foot by 3-foot soil pit and a shallow conduit trench connecting the station to the probes. All work is intended to modernize data collection infrastructure and enhance operational safety without disrupting the surrounding wilderness environment.
