Humboldt County has issued a Special Permit for a 10,000-square-foot commercial cannabis nursery that will operate as both a wholesale and retail facility with integrated self-distribution capabilities. The facility is designed to use no more than 160,000 gallons of water annually, all sourced from a 250,000-gallon rainwater catchment pond, ensuring sustainable water management. Electricity will be supplied by Pacific Gas and Electric through an approved renewable energy program, aligning with environmental standards. The proposal includes a reduction in the required streamside management area setback, recommended and justified by a qualified biologist to balance ecological protection with operational feasibility. To accommodate this land use, a Zone Reclassification is required from Neighborhood Commercial C-1 to Agriculture General AG, reflecting the agricultural nature of the cannabis cultivation activities. The project falls under the Commercial Cannabis Land Use Ordinance outside the Coastal Zone and is subject to regulatory oversight by Humboldt County, with primary contact handled by the Senior Planner.
