Contracted Enhancements to Local Bus Services

Bedford Borough Council is seeking proposals for contracted enhancements to local bus routes to improve the town centre network, specifically targeting Hillgrounds Road and Saxon Centre, Putnoe Lane, Woodlands Park, and Abbeyfields. The primary objective is to ensure all residents in these areas have access to public transport within 400 metres of their homes, with enhanced connectivity to key hubs including Bedford Hospital, Bedford Bus Station, and the Bedford and Kempston town centres. The contract is structured into seven option-based lots, ranging from individual location provisions to a comprehensive all-destination service. Operators have the flexibility to integrate these requirements into existing networks on a commercial basis. Awards will be based on the best commercial position and overall value for money, evaluated through quality factors including social value for the local community, ticketing options, driver training, and customer communications.
