Deadwood Creek Tributaries Restoration

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has entered into Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-TRI-65376-R1I with the Northwest California Resource Conservation and Development Council for the Deadwood Creek Tributaries Restoration project. Located in Trinity County, California, the project focuses on three specific restoration components within the historic Brown Bear Mine property: roadway decommissioning at Donnelly Gulch, large woody debris placement at Thorne Gulch, and the removal of abandoned vehicles from Deadwood Creek. These efforts are part of a broader cleanup initiative to remove garbage and abandoned vehicles while restricting illegal access to the area to prevent dumping and occupation. The project is governed by Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code and includes strict environmental compliance measures. All in-stream work must be conducted between June 1 and October 15. Key operational requirements include the prohibition of synthetic monofilament netting for erosion control, mandatory equipment cleaning to prevent invasive species, and the maintenance of spill kits on-site. Additionally, the agreement mandates that all equipment be checked daily for leaks and that no refueling or maintenance occur where pollutants could enter state waters.
