Drop 3 Unit 2 Overhaul

The Imperial Irrigation District is undertaking the rehabilitation of the 5 MW vertical hydraulic turbine generator Unit 2 at the Drop 3 Hydroelectric Facility in Holtville, California. The primary objective of this project is to restore hydraulic performance and extend the service life of the equipment by replacing components that have reached the end of their useful life. This effort will return approximately 5 MW of renewable hydroelectric generating capacity to service, ensuring continuous, safe, and efficient power generation. The scope of work includes the refurbishment of turbine and generator equipment, the installation of a new off-axis adjustable-blade Kaplan runner, and the replacement of worn or deteriorated turbine components. Additionally, the project involves upgrading auxiliary mechanical systems and replacing obsolete electrical instrumentation, governor, and control system components. All activities will be conducted within the existing facility footprint with no physical expansion or change to the approved generating capacity. The project is categorized as exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under Class 1, Section 15301 for existing facilities.
