Expanding global health security through local partnerships in Nigeria

This contract aims to bolster Nigeria’s capacity to meet the requirements of the International Health Regulations (2005) by enhancing the capabilities of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, other relevant government ministries and agencies, and sub-national public health entities including state ministries of health and local government authorities. Building on progress made since the 2017 Joint External Evaluation and the more recent 2023 assessment, the initiative targets persistent gaps in health systems and workforce management to enable a coordinated multisectoral response to public health threats. Emphasis is placed on strengthening local-level detection and response mechanisms, recognizing that effective global health security begins with robust capabilities at the community and state levels where health emergencies originate. The solicitation, titled Expanding global health security through local partnerships in Nigeria and identified by CDC-RFA-JG-26-0043, is issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is open for applications through October 2, 2026, and seeks partners capable of working closely with Nigerian institutions to develop sustainable, locally driven solutions. The effort is designed to foster collaboration across sectors and jurisdictions, ensuring that Nigeria’s public health infrastructure can reliably anticipate, detect, and respond to emerging health risks with speed and precision. All proposals must align with the goal of embedding long-term resilience within Nigeria’s health security framework through capacity building and system strengthening.
