Protecting and Improving Global Health Security by Engaging Local Partners: Strengthening and Sustaining Public Health Systems in Ghana

This contract aims to strengthen Ghana’s public health system to better prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats through sustained investment in local capacity and leadership. Building on prior CDC-funded efforts in laboratory systems, disease surveillance, emergency response, and workforce development, the initiative expands to include critical enhancements in border district surveillance and laboratory capacity, as well as advanced sequencing and bioinformatics capabilities. The goal is to create a more resilient, integrated public health infrastructure that can swiftly identify emerging threats and mitigate epidemics before they spread, leveraging partnerships across government, multilateral organizations, and local stakeholders to amplify impact and ensure sustainability. The solicitation, titled Protecting and Improving Global Health Security by Engaging Local Partners: Strengthening and Sustaining Public Health Systems in Ghana, is issued under CDC-RFA-JG-26-0047 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is open for applications until October 2, 2026, with proposals expected to align with outcomes focused on reducing avoidable epidemics and improving the speed and effectiveness of public health responses.
