The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region VII is planning to issue an Invitation for Bid to address the remediation of mining wastes at Operable Unit 01 (OU1) of the Oronogo-Duenweg Mining Belt Site in Jasper County, Missouri. This extensive site, part of the Missouri section of the Tri-State Mining District, spans approximately 270 square miles across 11 former mining areas and contains around 10 million tons of mining waste distributed over 7,000 acres. This particular contract will focus on remediation activities covering about 150 acres within the site. The remediation efforts must adhere to relevant federal, state, and local laws and be conducted in compliance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), including the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) and the National Contingency Plan (NCP). The EPA anticipates awarding a firm fixed-price contract, potentially including performance incentives, with an estimated value of $2.5 million. The procurement is set aside for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses under NAICS code 562910, reflecting hazardous waste treatment and disposal services. The formal solicitation was expected to be posted around July 9, 2007, with the contract being managed by the EPA’s Region 7 Contracting Office located in Lenexa, Kansas.
