Forestry and Parks - Request for Proposal - Nordegg FireSmart Maintenance Project (North) – 2025/26

The Rocky Mountain House Wildfire Management Area is seeking maintenance work on 72.9 hectares of previously treated FireSmart areas to continue wildfire risk reduction efforts near the Nordegg community in Alberta. The maintenance involves selective mulching over 70.6 hectares to reduce surface fuel loads, while 1.5 hectares are designated as mulch-free zones and 0.8 hectares as mulch pile zones. This work aims to mitigate wildfire threats by managing forest fuels that pose a risk to the community, supporting the regeneration of aspen through the creation of favorable microsites, and enhancing fire suppression effectiveness. The project is solicited by the Government of Canada’s Forestry and Parks department under the Nordegg FireSmart Maintenance Project for the 2025/26 period. Proposals must be submitted by February 9, 2026. Wade Colwell serves as the primary contracting authority for this project. This initiative targets improved wildfire resilience through fuel reduction and vegetation management, ultimately increasing safety and resource capabilities for fire suppression in the region.
