Genetic analysis of grizzly bear and black bear hair samples from the Selwyn Mountains, Yukon

The Government of Yukon, Department of Environment, intends to direct award contract ACAN-2026-9-5559 to Wildlife Genetics International for the genetic analysis of up to 1,525 grizzly bear and black bear hair samples collected from the Selwyn Mountains. The project involves two primary phases of analysis, specifically individual identification and parentage genetic analysis. The estimated value of the contract is up to 85,000, with an initial performance period running from October 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027. There is a potential for renewal for an additional two years, subject to funding and departmental requirements. This direct award is based on the determination that Wildlife Genetics International is the only contractor capable of providing the required services, as they were the sole respondent to the previous Request for Expression of Interest. The procurement process is subject to Chapter Five of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement. To ensure transparency, the Advanced Contract Award Notice allows other qualified suppliers to challenge the intent to direct award by demonstrating their technical capabilities in microsatellite genetic analysis and error-check protocols through the electronic bidding system.
