Habitat Enhancement to Benefit Tricolored Blackbird Project

The County of San Diego has authorized the acceptance of grant funding from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Natural Community Conservation Planning Local Assistance Grant Program for the Habitat Enhancement to Benefit Tricolored Blackbird Project. This initiative, managed by the County Department of Parks and Recreation, focuses on improving wildlife habitat at the Boulder Oaks Preserve, located approximately three miles south of Ramona in central San Diego County. The scope of work includes the thinning of old-growth bulrush, the installation of cattail and nettle species, and the treatment of invasive non-native plant species. The project is designated as a CEQA Categorical Exemption under section 15304 for minor alterations to land, as it does not involve the removal of healthy, mature, or scenic trees and is confirmed to have no significant environmental impacts or adverse effects on endangered species and historical resources. Administrative oversight is provided by Jennifer Price, Land Use/Environmental Planner III, and Crystal Benham, Chief of the County Department of Parks and Recreation. The project was officially approved by the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors on January 28, 2026.
