AI Contract Overview
The Harkness Laboratory of Fisheries Research, located on the shore of Lake Opeongo within Algonquin Provincial Park, will undergo asphalt paving and drainage improvements to upgrade approximately 1,600 square meters of existing gravel road and parking area, including resurfacing about 200 square meters that was previously paved. The pavement must be engineered to support regular use by light-duty vehicles such as pickup trucks and occasional passage by larger delivery trucks carrying fuel and groceries. Adjacent to the paved area, the contractor will perform minor grading and shaping of the roadway and its shallow roadside ditches to ensure effective water diversion and prevent pooling or erosion, with all necessary culverts already in place and not requiring replacement. Work may proceed Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with sufficient space available on-site for material and equipment staging, and access to nearby washrooms will be provided during the project period. Completion of substantial work is strongly preferred before October 16, 2026. The solicitation, referenced as pr_5378 and tender_22019, was posted on July 31, 2026, with bids due by August 21, 2026, and is managed by the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Natural Resources, with Ray Dickson listed as the buyer contact.

Full Description
The Asphalt Paving and Drainage Improvements Work includes the paving of approximately 1,600 m² of surface area at the Site that is currently established and maintained as a gravel road and parking area. A portion of this area (approximately 200 m²) has previously been paved and will require resurfacing. The roadway is primarily used by light-duty vehicles, including pickup trucks, with occasional use by larger delivery vehicles such as fuel and grocery trucks. The finished pavement structure must be designed and constructed to withstand these loading conditions as described in the description of Construction Services. In addition to paving, the Contractor shall complete minor improvements to the existing roadway and roadside drainage system. This includes shaping and grading the road surface and shallow ditches along both sides of the roadway to facilitate proper water diversion and drainage away from the paved surface. All culverts are already installed and do not require replacement. The Site has a large area to stage material and equipment that is adjacent to the area that will be paved. Work at the Site can be conducted anytime Monday-Friday between 7:00am and 4:30pm. There are washrooms in close proximity that can be made available during the Work.
Preference is for the work to be substanitally completed prior to October 16, 2026.
