AI Contract Overview
The Department of Veterans Affairs intends to award a sole source contract to the University of Washington Metabolism Research Center Cellular and Molecular Imaging Core for histology and immunohistochemistry research services. This procurement supports the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System Seattle Division Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center by providing specialized staining, including Hematoxylin and Eosin as well as immunohistochemistry for abnormal neurofibrillary tangles, amyloid plaques, TDP-43, and Lewy body inclusions and neurites. The University of Washington was selected as the sole source due to its status as the primary academic affiliate for the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System and the need for consistency across research cohorts. This action is authorized under FAR 6.302.1-1 and 38 U.S.C. 8153, which permits sole source awards for research with VA academic affiliates. The procurement falls under NAICS code 541380 with a size standard of 19 million dollars and PSC code Q301. As this is a pre-solicitation notice of intent for a sole source award, no formal solicitation will be posted to SAM.gov, though the contracting officer retains the discretion to conduct a competitive procurement based on received responses.
