Maintenance Dredging at B Street Cruise Ship Terminal

The project involves an amendment to the Coastal Act Categorical Determination of Exclusion for maintenance dredging at the B Street Cruise Ship Terminal in San Diego, California, to increase the volume of material to be dredged from 26,000 to 34,000 cubic yards. This adjustment is necessary to accommodate the installation and safe operation of new shore power infrastructure, ensuring compatibility with all incoming vessels. The dredging area has been reconfigured with revised depth specifications—-33 feet at the 100-foot mark from the quay wall and -29 feet at the 65-foot mark—along with a gentler slope gradient to enhance structural integrity, minimize soil sloughing, and improve clearance for vessels during berthing. These modifications collectively strengthen the stability of the quay wall, reduce operational risks, and optimize the terminal’s functionality. The updated design supports both safety and efficiency for cruise operations while aligning with regulatory and engineering standards. The San Diego Unified Port District is overseeing the project, with Joel Valenzuela, Director of Maritime, serving as the primary point of contact.
