The Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center in Charleston plans to award a nearly $10 million modification to an existing contract with Centurum, Inc., negotiated on a sole source basis as Centurum is the only provider able to offer continuous support without redundant costs before upcoming competitive procurements. This modification will cover a range of technical support activities including testing, training, integration, and upgrades related to various naval communication and surveillance systems such as the Common Submarine Radio Room (CSRR), Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS), and Submarine External Communications Systems, among others. It also includes repair and refurbishment tasks, ongoing test and evaluation laboratory support, and assistance for satellite communications and tactical radio systems. The scope extends to supporting fleet technical assistance programs, federal emergency management communication upgrades, and specific communications system installations in Iraq. The competitive solicitations for these services are expected to be released later in the year, but until then, Centurum will continue its support under this modification. Responses to the announcement are due by late July 2006, and no requests for proposals are being issued at this time. The contract is managed under the Department of Defense’s NIWC Atlantic office located in North Charleston, South Carolina.
